FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — Community members are mourning the loss of twin brothers killed in a Franklin County car crash.

16-year-old Gabriel and Garrett Cribb were killed in a single-car crash Wednesday night around 10:00 p.m. on Howard Tant Road.

Thursday night, family and friends gathered to honor and celebrate the life of the two teenagers.

All that’s left of the crash are pieces from the wreck and roses from loved ones.

“They were there. Fighting for their lives," said childhood friend Jaden Schauer. "The only thing left is a rearview mirror hanging from the tree branches.”

The brothers were just getting off work Wednesday night, driving along Howard Tant Road in Franklin County, when their vehicle went off the right shoulder, struck an embankment and ditch and slammed into a tree.

When Gabriel’s girlfriend Mary Rose didn’t hear from him she began to worry.

"At first I thought his phone died, but then he should have been home by two hours, which obviously concerned me," said Rose. "It’s going to be hard for the next few months, years, I don’t know honestly.”

Gabriel and Garrett loved wrestling and cars.

Thursday night friends released lanterns out by the lake, where they enjoyed spending their days.

"He made me appreciate what I had a lot more," said Schauer. "He made me appreciate that I was still happy.”

“I just want to say thank you and I love you," said friend Hunter Godwin. "It’s hard.”

Bunn High school also issued a statement saying, “Gabriel and Garrett’s maturity and involvement in the school community will be dearly missed. They were both great students that I can always count on to do the right thing. They loved wrestling and formed a special brotherhood with the wrestling team.”

Family members spoke with WRAL News off-camera. They said they are not ready to speak, but there is a GoFundMe page set up for anyone who would like to help.
