Posted — UpdatedFORT BRAGG, N.C. — On Tuesday, the community can join a Facebook Live discussion to provide input on a plan to rename Fort Bragg.
At 11 a.m., Fayetteville Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Jensen will host a virtual town hall on the City of Fayetteville's Facebook page.
Fort Bragg is one of 10 military bases around the South named after Confederate leaders that will get a new name. Gen. Braxton Bragg, Fort Bragg's namesake, served in the Confederate army and owned a plantation where people were enslaved.
In the coming weeks, Col. Scott Pence, Fort Bragg's garrison commander, will work with an eight-member naming commission appointed by Congress to recommend new names for Fort Bragg and the nine other military posts.
The naming commission will deliver a report to Congress next year.
Pence wants input from the Fayetteville and surrounding communities along with current and retired Fort Bragg soldiers.
