Cooler temperatures on the way after stormy Monday
A round of severe weather largely missed the Triangle on Monday, but rain will once again be possible on Tuesday as a cold front brings relief from the heat.
Posted — UpdatedThe majority of severe weather stayed to the south of the Triangle, but rain remains likely in the area overnight, WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.
"Many of us have stayed completely dry today, but will likely get wet tonight and tomorrow," she said.
After the storms roll though, it will be much cooler, with temperatures expected to stay in the 70s in some places.
"It does look like tomorrow will be a cooler day for everyone," Wilmoth said.
With the cooler temperatures, however, comes another threat for severe weather Tuesday.
"We have a pretty good chance, area-wide, of some showers and thunderstorms," Wilmoth said. "At any point in time tomorrow, we'll have the potential for some rain, so have the umbrellas handy."
Counties to the south of the Triangle are under a Level 1 risk for severe weather, with storms bringing the risk for strong winds, heavy rain and hail.
Wilmoth said there is a possibility for isolated severe storms on Tuesday, but the system should move out of the area by about 11 p.m.
"It does look like it's going to be pretty unsettled. We're going to have a lot of clouds and periods of rain," she said.
