Code red lockdown lifted at Lufkin Road Middle School in Apex

Lufkin Road Middle School in Apex was in a code red lockdown on Thursday afternoon after police said someone reported a suspicious person near the school.

APEX, N.C. — Lufkin Road Middle School was in a code red lockdown for a short period of time on Thursday afternoon after police said someone reported a suspicious person in the area.

Around 12:30 p.m., officers with the Apex Police Department said they were searching the area around the school. The lockdown was lifted by 1:30 p.m.

According to school officials, a student reported seeing a suspicious person, but there was no threat to the school.

The lockdown was issued as a precaution, police told WRAL News.

During a code red lockdown, teachers, staff and students are secured inside rooms, and no one is allowed to leave until the all-clear.
