RALEIGH, N.C. — Wintry weather was expected to linger on the North Carolina coast Tuesday morning as a system moved eastward through the state.

While flurries didn’t last long in areas like Cumberland County, some snow accumulated in Jacksonville, which could see up to an inch of snow Tuesday, meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Onslow County Schools canceled classes Tuesday.

A sprinkle is possible in the Triangle, but Gardner expects it to stay mostly dry.

Temperatures will drop into 20s Tuesday and Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday highs will be in the 50s, and the weekend will see temperatures in the 60s.
