Atlantic Beach, N.C. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued two missing men and their dog Saturday morning off the Core Sound banks, near Atlantic Beach.
The men left Friday morning to fish in the Core Sound area from Nelson Bay to Turnagain Bay aboard a 17-foot Galaxy craft boat. The boat owner's wife called authorities Friday night after the men hadn't returned and couldn't be located.
"The Coast Guard helicopter crew located the two men just off core banks waving their arms for help," said Petty Officer 1st Class Jason Frivance, a Sector North Carolina watchstander.
Both men, along with their dog, were hoisted into the helicopter. They were OK and were taken to Beaufort air field to meet their family.
