RALEIGH, N.C. — Bojangles has unveiled a new chicken sandwich that it is advertising as "cluckin' good."

Bo's Chicken Sandwich, which contains a hand-breaded chicken breast, is served on a toasted bakery bun and topped with seasoned mayonnaise and thick-cut dill pickles.

Bojangles had been offering a Cajun filet chicken sandwich, which is served with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a toasted bun.

Chef Marshall Scarborough, vice president of menu and culinary innovation for Bojangles, said the new Bo's Chicken Sandwich is different in a few ways. While the seasoning on the chicken is the same, the new sandwich is hand-breaded at each location and fried. The "zesty" mayonnaise, thick-cut pickles and brioche style bun are upgrades from the previous sandwich.

The new Bo's Chicken Sandwich has the same level of spiciness that you'd expect from any piece of chicken at Bojangles. It's a slow-building heat.

The sandwich is now available at all Bojangles locations for $3.99.

Scarborough said chicken supplier shortages should not affect the new sandwich's availability.

This is the North Carolina-based chicken restaurant's entry into the so-called "chicken sandwich wars" began in 2019 when Popeye's brought back its popular chicken sandwich. People waited in drive-thru lines longer than one hour to taste the sandwich and people debated which chain -- KFC, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A and other restaurants -- served up the best. Since then, McDonald's, Burger King and even Taco Bell have introduced new chicken sandwiches.

Bojangles recently celebrated its 44th birthday.
