Posted — UpdatedThere will be a series of road closures Friday night on Interstate 440 at Lake Boone Trial to set up a new traffic pattern. I-440 West will close at 9 p.m. at Lake Boone Trail, or Exit 5, and will reopen at 5 a.m. Saturday morning if weather does not delay the project.
After crews finish construction, the traffic pattern will shift more toward the median between Exit 5 and Exit 4 on the Beltline.
Crews will place a barrier wall and pavement markings to direct traffic to shift toward the median.
On Friday at 9 p.m., there will be a detour for drivers. Drivers will exit the Beltline and follow Lake Boone Trail to Blue Ridge Road to Wade Avenue, and get back on the interstate.
The ramp from Lake Boone Trail to I-440 West will also be closed while crews work on this traffic pattern change.
If there is too much rain to complete the project, it will be finished Saturday night.
"Drivers should pay attention and allow for extra time to navigate through the work zone," a press release from NCDOT said.
