FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville gas station employee was shot in the leg on Friday night during an armed robbery, police said.

Fayetteville police said two men robbed the Sunoco station at 4537 Raeford Road around 11:30 p.m. Both men pointed handguns at the clerk and demanded the employee open the cash register.

One of the suspects took cash from the drawer and also stole a sword that was lying beside the counter, police said. The suspects got away with an undetermined amount of money.

As the suspects were fleeing the store, one of the men fired a shot that grazed the clerk in the leg. The clerk was not seriously injured, police said.

There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery.

Officers used a K-9 to search the scene, and a forensics team dusted for fingerprints.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call Det. K. Hertrich at 910-709-8063 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
