Skies are clear Wednesday morning, but temperatures were lower Wednesday than Tuesday morning.

Whereas cloud coverage helps insulate the area, clear skies help temperatures fall.

Ice is still a risk on roads as temperatures hovered in the 20s and low 30s. Snow that fell Sunday and Monday has not been able to fully melt because of low temperatures, nor has ice across the state.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said the threat of black ice should pass by 11 a.m.

Wake County and those to the north and the west are under a winter weather advisory until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to rise to the 40s Wednesday afternoon.

No precipitation is in the forecast.

A low-pressure system is expected to bring chilly rain Friday through Sunday, with 1.5 inches to 3 inches of rain across the state.
