CLAYTON, N.C. — A teenager was killed Monday night in a shooting at a Clayton apartment complex, according to police.

Just before 8:30 p.m., officers with the Clayton Police Department responded to the Pines at Glen Laurel Apartments complex off N.C. Highway 42 in east Clayton.

Chief Greg Tart said a teen boy was killed, and authorities are still looking for the suspect shooter.

On Tuesday, police said they discovered the body of 16-year-old Jayden Shamar Jones. Police discovered the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred between Jones and two other people.

Officers responding to a nearby fire saw a car leaving the Glen Laurel Apartments complex at high rate of speed, Tart said. He said authorities chased the car, which went into Wake County. The driver in the vehicle drove at speeds over 100 miles per hour at times.

Both suspects fired multiple shots at Jones before leaving the complex in a white vehicle. Police believe the shooting does not appear to be a random act.

Police provided a surveillance photo of the vehicle.

Police are looking for a white sedan involved in a fatal shooting in Clayton.

Authorities received several 911 calls about the shooting.

Residents told authorities they heard about 15 gunshots.
