Clayton man charged with habitual impaired driving

A Clayton man has been charged with habitual impaired driving after a Wake County sheriff's deputy says he was driving a moped while drunk Saturday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Clayton man has been charged with habitual impaired driving after a Wake County sheriff's deputy says he was driving a moped while drunk Saturday.

Deputies wrote in an arrest warrant that Eric F. Scarborough, of 322 W. Second St., was driving his moped erratically on Poole Road. He had red, glassy eyes and an strong odor of alcohol but refused to take a blood test, the warrant states.

Scarborough was placed in the Wake County jail under a $20,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Monday.

Scarborough was on probation for a May conviction for driving while impaired in Johnston County, according to state Department of Correction records. He also has 2006 and 2007 DWI convictions in Wake County. He served about seven months in jail for the 2007 conviction.
