State health leaders have not recommended preemptive school closures but his businesses and other events are canceled Many people are wondering about schools and school events that we are A Sloan Heffernan attended a problem tonight on held despite the concerns of many people including the governor That's right that Prom Gerald is just wrapping up here at the Crabtree Valley Marriott in These kids were super excited to be here They have every right to be excited right They're seniors  They're gonna be graduating But this rite of passage almost didn't happen because of Corona virus The prom went on and tonight we learned So will school for thousands of students and teachers in the Wake County school system Wake County students will be heading back to school Monday despite Corona virus concerns The superintendent noted that state officials have specifically recommended that school's not be closed and that Children are at low risk of serious illness All supervisors however especially those at district headquarters I have been instructed to work from home if possible  Just as the weight decision came down celebrations were just getting started at the Clayton High School prom Hundreds of students from Johnston County gathered together in one room even though Governor Cooper warned of gathering larger than 100 people or more At least in my opinion if we're gonna be at school we're gonna be walking around do everything We're already gonna be exposed So there's really not that much of a difference Except for the setting They were together from 7 to 2 o'clock It's the same group of students now together from 7 11 so it's just more of an extension of the school day tonight the principal says they're taking precautions like offering hand sanitizer at the door Parents We spoke two words Full support I think it was great because first of all it can't keep their minds off what's going on A much needed distraction for kids who are getting ready to graduate  There's really a party No Now the principal tells me that the kid's safety was obviously the most important concern when they were trying to make the decision about whether or not to hold this prom But he also said the planning and the costs associated with putting on this event for the kids was also taken into consideration promised costing the school and parents and the kids About $25,000 So many people here tonight Happy that it went on back to you It seems like they're getting every penny's worth of that money Thank you Sloan
