RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh city leaders have approved a plan to build more tiny homes.

A move that could open up more affordable housing.

The plan calls for these tiny homes to be built in their own lots.

The hope is the decision will diversify housing in Raleigh and make it more affordable.

"Tiny homes represents a great alternative for single family living and much more affordable," said Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin.

A spokesperson for Tiny Homes Raleigh told WRAL News the company is reviewing options on where to build.

Currently a tiny home under 300 square feet would cost around $65,000 which would include hook ups for water, sewer, and electric.
