'Christmas Town USA' trimming traditions for 2020
A year after being ranked as one of the best cities to see holiday lights by USA Today, "Christmas Town USA" is preparing to welcome back regulars to its annual lights display.
Lena to let spoke with Organizer's of two well known holiday events, both right here in the triangle and across the state, about how they're trimming the traditions to keep you and your family safe. Starting with Christmas Town, U. S. A. Is ranked one of the best cities to see Christmas lights in the country by USA Today Last holiday season. Yeah, if you're new to North Carolina, you may not know it, but the Tar Heel state is home to Christmas town. Use a The town of McCadden Ville west of Charlotte transforms into a true storybook holiday community each December for more than 60 years now, and we're so happy to report they will be doing it again this year. Here to tell us about this annual tradition and how it will be trimmed just a bit this year is Christie Glidden, the executive vice president with far and one of the many organizer's of this fabulous celebration. Christie, great to see you. Thank you. Thank you so much for having us on your program. So it's no doubt December is the most wonderful and busiest time of year for Christmas town. You average more than half a million visitors each season. So what traditions are changing this year and what's still in place for those who make regular visits? Yeah, it is gonna be a bit different this year, but what what part of 2020 has been the same, right? So we we definitely wanted to still be able Thio have Christmas town and have people come visit and enjoy it. It's part of so many people's annual family traditions, so we wanted to keep that in place, but also keep in mind certainly CDC guidelines and Governor Cooper's orders. So we we collaborated with the town of McCadden Ville. Health officials on This is what we've come up with this sort of un abbreviated Christmas town. So we'll still be lighting a part of the town, but does not. Not all aspects. So what's the best and safest way to take in all McCadden Ville has to offer this year? Well, you know, people who have been required quarantining with family and they've got quarantine buddies, you know, they will still be able to to drive through safely, and we will still have merchants open. We have four merchants in town that are open in the evenings, and we will have to public parking areas near those merchants. If people do want to stop and walk around and visit, maybe get a souvenir, have some dinner, have some dessert, uh, that will that will still be in place. But, you know, we've gotten some feedback from people who do plan to come, and they're gonna They're planning to drive through eso. Hopefully, it'll be a nice mix. Is it a big boost to all those businesses in town? It really is. Um, they do rely on the month of December because we do have 600,000 people who come through town. I love typical year. And so they do rely on the month of December for a lot of their revenue. More information. We know people can check out Christmas Town.
