<p>Hey everybody. This is WRL S heather leah and I am out here tonight at one of the most beautiful holiday displays that I've seen this year and I'm one of those people who drives around looking for light displays, you can see it behind me. We're actually going to get to walk inside the display, which is something even though there are over 1000 cars, I believe it's been 1500 this year so far that come through, none of them get to see the view you're gonna get to see tonight. So we're gonna take you inside the lights and watch the waterfall really come down from the tree tops. So I'm just gonna go ahead and turn this around and show you what we're looking at. And we're going to get as close a view as you can possibly get. Um, and the owner rick, grandinetti, he's hearing Kerry, he's actually going to show us how he does. This one would call it a secret of the trade, but he says it's no secret. He would love to share his knowledge so that people can make beautiful displays. Um, now this display is based on generosity. Um, people make donations to ST jude's and that's even more beautiful than the display itself is the reason behind the display. But I want to show it to you and then we're going to take a look inside. But first I'm going to show you the outside. So now rick has told me That he uses over 200,000 lights. I mean, so when I first saw this display, I was actually driving home from my mother in law's and just caught a glimpse of this. These towering, towering lights just raining from the trees. And I made a U turn and had to come in and take a look at this display. and boy was I not disappointed. So over 200,000 lights if you're a christmas vacation fan definitely makes me think of the Griswold family except for it works. He's even got the reindeer out here. So there are some inflatables to really add to the richness of the display though obviously the, the most incredible part is the rainbows of lights, just just water falling from the trees. Now, even when I pulled up here, there was already a line of cars. So we have people just people been pulling through this neighborhood all night even since I've been here, but it's definitely something that you can come see for yourself. He started about 15 years ago and it'll tell you where you can find this if you want to come see these for yourselves. It's absolutely incredible. 200,000 lights and he's going to show you how he gets him up there in the trees. So I'm about to go meet with him and he's gonna take us, this is really magical. I got to do it a second ago. We're gonna go inside the lights here and take a look from within. It is absolutely even more stunning than it looks from out here. And plus it's a sneak peek because normally if you were to drive by you wouldn't get to see that part, but we're going to get to take a look inside. But yes, and we'll tell you the address at the end of the livestream to if you would like to just come see it for yourself. Now I did want to say before we get started and he's gonna show us the inside. Um as far as the donations to ST jude's on top of being beautiful, this brings in a lot of money for ST jude's each year. In fact one year there was a $15,000 donation from just one man who was moved um because wasn't his, was it that his father had died? And his mother alright, she came up and her, she didn't, she spoke broken english, she was so happy because it reminded her of the lights and he came back the next day and gave a check. I didn't even see until a week later was in an envelope. Oh wow. He said it moved his mother to tears, but it brought her joy during a hard time. So this is rick rick. Oh, there are Children here taking a look. It's absolutely magical. This is actually heather. You're the only one that's seen us and we come in here and now all of you guys too. Hey there want to make sure bingo. But it literally looks like we're in a dome of lights. Look at this guys. This is inside. So we're inside and he says, it looks like we're in a dome of lights and I could not agree more. It looks to me like we're under a rainbow waterfall. Absolutely gorgeous. And I have about a total of 200,000 lights and probably in the strands. There's probably about 100 220,000 up there. Look at the look at the view guys absolutely gorgeous in here. And of course you can see why people are not allowed to walk in here and be a little bit dangerous but look at all the cars going by and then the view from in here is not something that you'll get to see if you drive by here, but you get to see it here on WRL facebook live, but I will tell you as beautiful as it looks through this livestream, it's that much cooler in person when you come drive by, you can get out of the car and walk along the sidewalk and really just get a sense of of how beautiful it is. Can I show you how I do this? Yes, you can stay right there. I'll go get it. Alright, Alright guys, he's going to show us how he does this. So for any of you who are wanting to do this at home, I don't think I would quite have the skill or the height, but he's going to show us how he does this this feat Again Guys, 200,000 Lights. Oh, we can see the house from here much better too. Oh look at that. Who recognizes the leg lamp? Perfect. That's that's the best part april usually helps but how long will the lights be up? They want to know. It'll be up to? Good question. 27 guys, you gotta come see it quick if you want to, it's up through the 27th and then he's traveling. So Alright, alright, let's see what you do here, but I take this pole and I take this fishing line And I threaded through here. And here's the part that is. Here's the part that is very interesting. I thread it with the socket wrench and I cast it over the tree and then on the other side I tie the light up. Now. Here's the key since you're real close because over here the The fishing line wires. Yeah, I see them here. Those there are in each tree, there's about 200 of those fishing line wires holding all the lights up. It takes me about 20 minutes per line. I start in September 20 minutes per line. So several months of work. Yes. Yes. And and and and you and you mentioned already it is for ST jude Children's Hearts. Yeah, that makes sense. That's that's months of volunteer work that you're putting in. That's going to benefit ST jude's at the end. That's amazing. Now people are asking for the address again. Yeah, we're trying to avoid landmines, can you see I mean I do have a crew that comes in and does all of this and if you could see it from here they do a good job. I don't do the roof, he doesn't do the roof alright, that makes sense. But everything else, what made you first start doing this? Like what made you first decide you're going to throw some lights on a fishing line and toss them over some trees. I had I lived in another house, they had big trees and I decided to take a chance. I did a bow and arrow one time I wanted to see how high I can get them and I tried the fishing pole and it worked. I went I'm going to do it, it was just by luck, that's amazing. Have you seen there's a little christmas tree, well I call it the little christmas tree, it hangs over the beltline in Raleigh it's I for 40 it's a it's a little christmas tree and you see it by the Six Forks Road exit. I had always wondered how they got it up there because it's a christmas tree, a whole tree hanging like 50 ft in the air um and they said they had tried to bow and arrow, like it just reminds me a lot of what you're doing um and I think they ended up hoisting it up, they're kind of like you, they hoist it so and it's a full christmas tree, but it looks tiny, it looks like it's three ft tall, but it's actually an eight ft tall christmas tree. Yeah, it's definitely worth checking out, but these are beautiful um and I really wanted to show you guys in a live stream, so you can see this more up close and really get a view of what it looks like. We've got a lot of people saying how they want to come out, definitely come, take a look at it in person, can I walk up here and just show some of this up, look at this. Even the part that's not coming down from the trees is still beautiful, more people with the address. So um we will repeat the address again towards the end of the livestream. Um and also the address is listed in the article which is linked here in the post, but we will say the address again before the end of the stream. Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. We have a gorgeous day and our forecast, our temperatures are pleasantly cool this morning, skies are clear and our wind is mostly calm. Now. There may be some gusts that happened later on this afternoon. We could be gusting 15 to almost 20 MPH in the middle of the day and then we'll see the wind starting to die down. It's not going to be anything that causes you any real issues, but just a touch on the breezy side. Midday. Our temperatures heading out the door this morning are chilly anywhere from mid forties to mid f depending on where you are. And it's going to be a lovely day today. Lunch outside. Absolutely. If I could put some exclamation points on this, I would almost 70 at lunchtime humidity, low, lots of sunshine, take advantage of this absolute gorgeous afternoon for lunch outside or whatever it is that you can do our highs mid afternoon, 74 in Raleigh, 72 in Durham and 78 in Fayetteville. So such a pretty day. Uh, lots of things to uh to do. It's a very busy time time of year lots of festivals and things. And I imagine with game three, the hurricanes versus the Islanders, there will be a lot of people out at watch parties, temperatures before the game will be dropping to around 60 then on into the upper fifties, by the time the game is over, cool, beautiful sunny conditions and low humidity. Look at that low humidity. It's in the fifties all the way up through Saturday and Sunday. But then on Monday it starts to climb up to 60 it gets into the sixties. That's when you start to notice it. You know, some days you're like, it feels humid. So we're going to start to feel it. It's not going to be overwhelming, you know, not looking at steamy or tropical conditions, but it will start to creep up as we get into the weekend. Look at the temperature change that we're going to see. You see the blue color contours, that's where temperatures are either below normal or close to normal. And then once we get into Sunday and much of next week, we're going to see temperatures climbing above normal. So we're talking about some eighties. Our normal highs are in the mid seventies and would be pretty close to that through Saturday. Then we start to climb into the eighties and we have the potential on Tuesday to be close to a record. The uh high temperature 88 the record nine back in 1906. So getting close to record territory. By the, uh, beginning of next week, it stays mainly dry. The only real chance of any rain we have is a tiny chance on Tuesday. Just a 20% chance. So we have a very dry period in our seven day forecast.

Seen some activity just in the past 10 minutes or so. I want to take you outside Sky five right now for a live look at the scene. We saw a van being escorted to the runway there and someone got out and now there appears to be a really careful inspection of the debris going on. So we're working to confirm if that may be the NTSB investigation team arriving at the scene. Let's zoom out and give you some about where this is. There are two main runways at RDU International and this is in the grassy field next to the runway that mostly serves terminal one on the east side of the airport, that runway remains closed while this investigation continues at the top of your screen. That is the other main runway that serves terminal two, mostly that runway is open. So we have two things going on here that could affect your flights for the rest of the day and maybe even into tomorrow, the airport takeoff and landing capacity is roughly reduced by half because they are only working with one runway. And if you have a flight coming out of terminal one, maybe Southwest, you're going to have to take that crossover all the way out to that other runway. It's going to add a lot of extra time.

A UNC Health physician and pilot were taken to the hospital Wednesday after a small plane crashed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).


Sky 5 flies over plane crash at RDU

RDU Airport Authority gives an update on a plane crash that sent a physician and pilot to the hospital. The crash occurred Wednesday morning on a flight that took off from Wilmington.

<p>Landguth first, I want to extend my thoughts to those affected by this morning's aircraft accident and thank our first responders for their quick action to respond. The airport authority and its mutual aid partners responded to an aircraft accident at RDU involving a general aviation aircraft. The accident occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. in the grass next to runway five, right 23 left. The flight was arriving from Wilmington, North Carolina. The A the aircraft is owned by medical Air Inc and operated by UN C air operations. The aircraft had two people on board, one pilot and one passenger. Both were transported to area hospitals. The federal A Bush administration issued a ground stop that was lifted at approximately 1130 this morning. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have both been notified. The National Transportation Safety Board is en route and expected to arrive within the next hour at which time we will conduct an accident investigation. Rdu's runway five left 23 right reopened to departing and arriving aircraft around 11:30 a.m. this morning. Are you experiencing approximately 70 delays and several arriving flights were diverted to other airports? Until ground stock was lifted, travelers should contact their airline for the latest updates regarding the flight status. And of course questions about the identity and condition of the pilot and passenger should be directed to UN C health. And at this time I'll try to answer any questions. You may have, uh, the one, any other accidents in, in the past. I'm not familiar with any other accidents have occurred with that operation. I don't know, uh, that's the role of the National Transportation Safety Board. They'll actually come in and do the investigation. Uh, and at some point in the future, they write up a report and determine what the cause of the accident was. You know, that there was no notification to the airport authority or to the FAA uh about any type of emergency on board. Do we have a guy? We don't, all we know that we've got them out of the airplane and we've got them transported to local hospitals. We know situations like this and delays have a ripple effect on, you know, flights. Do you have any idea what type of impact we'll see here in our view and for not sure, but what we're going to encourage everybody to do is reach out to your airlines. We'll be able to give you real time information about the impact of your particular flight. Ok. I believe some of them went to Greensboro and I think a couple went to Charlotte as well. What, what to be impacted due to the NTSD. Say that one more time at this point in time, what we call the west side of our airport is now open the investigation they'll conduct will all be on the east side. So at this point, we are anticipating normal operations returning to normal operations from this point forward. I don't think that anything that they're doing regarding the investigation or where they would have to investigate would have any impact to the west side of the airport. No, the aircraft is still on the airfield itself. It's on the east side of the field. So terminal one that runways the east side of the field, that's where the debris field actually sits, the west side of the field is open and operational and safe to operate. Not that I'm aware of in operations for you throughout this event today. What was your main concern concerning the passengers that were in the internals? Right. I think our primary focus when, when that accident occurred were the two people sitting in that aircraft? Our primary mission is to make sure we can get to them and try to rescue them and try to make sure that we can get them in a safe condition as fast as we possibly can. Uh secondarily is trying to figure out then how we recover and get our operations back up and running. Mhm. How does that affect? What goes on term? Yeah, so great. Question. So the team has figured out a way to get all the aircraft they're gonna operate at terminal one. Your Southwest develops. Uh We've got a crossover taxi way that we can actually get them through our general aviation aircraft. We've got a crossover taxiway, we can get them to. But the rest of the uh accident scene is actually kind of isolated and closed and locked off. Yeah, you're terminal one at this point in time. Once they can get back on their schedule, it's going to be a normal operations. All right. Thank you guys. All right. Thank you. Grab your phone, right.</p>
