RALEIGH, N.C. — After a cold, dreary Monday, the skies clear just in time for Santa Claus to make his rounds on Christmas Eve.

Saint Nick might be too warm in his red coat as he makes his rounds on Tuesday. Highs were around the low 60s in Raleigh -- more than 10 degrees warmer than the normal high for Dec. 24.

The skies will also be clear Tuesday night, Santa probably won't need Rudolph's help this year. A dry cold front comes through overnight Tuesday, and temperatures will drop back into the upper 40s Tuesday evening during Christmas Eve church services and festivities, falling into the 30s overnight.

Christmas Day will be cooler than Christmas Eve, but still mild, highs in the upper 50s and partly cloudy skies. Then, temperatures will rebound Thursday back into the mid and upper 60s.

Christmas morning starts off cold, with milder temperatures by the afternoon.

For parents wondering whether or not your kids will be enjoying their new holiday toys inside or outside on Christmas Day, the Toy Forecast indicates that Christmas morning starts off cold, perfect for staying snug inside and opening gifts from Santa. By the afternoon, temperatures should warm up, allowing kids to play outside with a coat or sweater.

A ridge of high pressure building in the Midwest will move east, keeping temperatures balmy all week.

Temperatures will warm up again on Thursday, which could see a high around 65 degrees in Raleigh. Those warm temperatures will continue into the weekend and next week, with rain not likely until Sunday and Monday.
