RALEIGH, N.C. — As rain clouds moved into the Triangle on Tuesday evening, chilly temperatures will accompany the rain, making for a raw remainder of the day.

The rain is likely to start as a few sprinkles in the afternoon, said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, but it will pick up later in the late afternoon and evening.

"It's going to be a messy, chilly evening commute," Gardner said.

The rain will last through dinner time and begin to break up overnight. Low cloud cover will linger on Wednesday morning, and a small disturbance will float through later in the day, bringing another chance of showers.

"We'll have a little disturbance swing by and bring us just a few scattered showers," she said.

Gardner said some rain is expected over the course of the next couple of days. The weekend will bring almost constant showers.

"In the next five days, we'll see around an inch or so (of rain). We're going to add some rain over the weekend," she said.

Thursday and Friday will be dry and cool with highs in the 40s and 50s.

"But we're going to see some showers over Saturday and Sunday," Gardner said. "If you're brave enough to head out, bring an umbrella and rain jacket."
