WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two children told investigators that a person dressed as a clown tried to lure them into the woods by offering them treats Sunday evening, according to the Winson-Salem Police Department.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of E. 29th Street at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to conduct a security check. During the investigation, officers learned that the person dressed as a clown had been seen by two children and heard, but not seen, by one adult. The subject ran from the scene when officers arrived.

A second sighting was reported at about 12:20 a.m. Monday morning in the 1600 block of Hope Lake, but again, attempts to find the person were unsuccessful.

The person was described as wearing a clown costume with white overalls, white gloves, red shoes with red bushy hair, a white face and a red nose.

The reports in Winston-Salem come about a week after multiple people reported seeing a person dressed as a clown attempting to lure into the woods in South Carolina.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 336-773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 336-717-2800.
