The fall/winter children's consignment sale season launches this month with the massive Kids Exchange at the NC State Fairgrounds. But this season will look a little different than past ones.

Thanks, likely, in part, to Facebook groups and other websites where parents can swap or buy clothing and gear for kids at prices far below retail, in-person consignment sales, which usually pop up twice a year, are having a hard time competing. Coupled with the loss of venues, we have some big changes this year.

Kidaround Kidsale, held at The Factory in Wake Forest for a dozen years, has been canceled until further notice after the owner of its venue opted to no longer rent to the sale, according to its website.
In the spring, Kidcycle, a longtime fundraiser for the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, was canceled because not enough consignors signed up. "Our decision to cancel Kidcycle makes way for the development of new strategies to ensure that our work is sustainable and our citizens are supported," organizers wrote on the website.
And, more than a year ago, the owners of Just4Kids, which originally ran a sale in Willow Spring, purchased three sales - Designer Consignors, Upscale Resale and Twice As Nice. During the upcoming season, they've merged Twice As Nice into Just4Kids' Cary sale and moved Designer Consignors, a consignment sale for women, from Cary to Chapel Hill. Designer Consignors will take place July 25 to July 27 at University Place.
Of course, not all sales are canceling or merging. Wings Kids Consignment Sale, which was canceled because of not enough interest last spring, is back on for the fall/winter season in August. And Kids EveryWEAR Consignment Sale is adding a new sale this summer. The Summer EverythingELSE Sale is slated for August.
The Kids Exchange will start the season this month when it opens to the public July 19.
I've updated our consignment sale database with details about all of these sales.
