WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest man accused of threatening a nearby school now faces child pornography charges, officials said Monday.
Arthur Vladimir Kochetkov, 33, was charged last month with communicating threats and making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property.

According to an application for a warrant to search the house on Tiffield Way where Kochetkov lives with his parents, he made expletive-filled posts on Facebook threatening to shoot up schools. The posts include photos of guns, Wake Forest police cars, a Wake County deputy's car and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Mark Johnson.

Police seized several computers and cellphones during the search, and an examination of them found images of child pornography, officials said.

Kochetkov was charged with five counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and his bond was increased to $500,000.

"In this type of case, it would not be unusual to see a sentence of several years imposed," Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said.

The Tiffield Way home backs up on Jones Dairy Elementary School, and Kochetkov was charged in June with trespassing on school property.

There is no evidence that any student from Jones Dairy Elementary appears in the images or that the images were taken on school property, officials said, noting that the images were downloaded from the internet.

Freeman said the new charges could mean Kochetkov will no longer be allowed to live near the school once he is released from jail.

"Usually, when you have someone who ends up being on the sex offender registry, there are certain requirements about that that is going to keep people away from, restrictions as to how close they can be to schools or to other places where children might congregate," she said.

Parents of Jones Dairy Elementary students have demanded more security from the Wake County Public School System in recent months.

School district spokeswoman Lisa Luten said officials have already paid for an armed off-duty officer to patrol the school, added security cameras, built a fence, added security film to the windows, cleared brush near the property and installed a new visitor management system in the front lobby.

Within hours of the news of Kochetkov's latest set of charges, David Blackwelder, a candidate for the Wake County Board of Commissioners, used it in a campaign mailing. Blackwelder has been out-spoken in his support for Jones Dairy parents who want more security at the school.

In an email to prospective voters, Blackwelder blasts both the Wake County Board of Education for not requesting more money for security from the county and the Board of Commissioners for not volunteering more aid.

"School security should be a top priority," Blackwelder wrote. He is asking specifics on how much of a planned $548 million bond would go toward school security and which schools would get security upgrades.
