CARY, N.C. — A 9-year-old boy riding his bicycle with his father and three friends was killed Tuesday evening after he was hit by a vehicle in Cary.

Paul Pham Dang, a third grader at Mill Park Elementary School, was hit by a vehicle that was turning from Maynard Road onto Maple Avenue at around 7:15 p.m., town officials said.

Paul was traveling on Maple Avenue, perpendicular to the path of the vehicle, police said.

He was taken to WakeMed, where he died while surrounded by family.

"A reminder to drivers, with the warmer weather there's more kids out," said Cary police Lt. Marcus Pearson. "Just to be aware of what is going on around you."

No further information was immediately available.
