FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An area around Industrial Drive off of Old Wilmington Road in Fayetteville was closed off Friday night while the Fayetteville Police Department Hazardous Materials Response Team investigated a chemical leak.

Employees of Hexion Chemicals told police that a line connected to a rail car transporting phenol had ruptured resulting in the leak at 1411 Industrial Drive just before 10:30 p.m.

The area surrounding the leak was being secured and the streets branching off were closed by the Fayetteville Police Department.

Police said the leak was quickly contained without injury to people or environmental concerns for neighboring properties.
