Now in its 5th year, BrickUniverse LEGO Convention will stop at the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend with a lot of Lego creation debuts, including a massive 22,000 brick rendering of the famous Mount Rushmore.

Chicago-based LEGO artist Rocco Buttliere spent more than 400 hours, over the course of eight weeks, to design, and roughly 150 hours to build this LEGO masterpiece, according to the event. Buttliere is considered one of the top LEGO artists in the world. His creations have been featured in multiple books, have won awards domestically and internationally and have been exhibited throughout the United States and around the world.

In his 10 years of professional LEGO building, Buttliere says his Mount Rushmore creation was the hardest to design and build yet, the news release says. It will be one of many large-scale LEGO displays on display at BrickUniverse. Buttliere also will have more than 50 world landmarks and skyscrapers on display at the event.

Also debuting this weekend: Jonathan Lopes, a professional LEGO artist from San Diego, will feature a full gallery of work from his forthcoming book, "New York City: Brick by Brick," according to a news release. LEGO creations that Lopes will be debuting include a 16' long LEGO model of the Brooklyn Bridge, a 6' tall LEGO model of the Chrysler Building, and a 5' tall LEGO model of the Flatiron Building.

"It is really cool that some of the world's top LEGO artist have chosen BrickUniverse Raleigh to debut all these new and amazing creations," says Greyson Beights, who started the BrickUniverse convention in Raleigh in 2015 when he was 14 years old, in the release. "It's really a testament to how large this event has become."

The two-day event, which runs Saturday and Sunday at the Raleigh Convention Center, will include brick building areas, a Star Wars Zone, a Challenge Zone, meet and greets and more. Tickets are still available, but they have sold out for this event in the past. They run $15 online and $18 at the door (if they are still available.)
