Chatham man faces statutory rape, incest charges
A Chatham County man faces accusations that he sexually assaulted a female relative who is younger than 12 years old.

Matthew Hefner, 20, of 1526 Vander Oldham Road in Bear Creek, was arrested Thursday on felony charges of indecent liberties with a child, statutory rape, statutory sex offense and incest.
The victim talked about the situation to school officials, who contacted Chatham County Social Services and Child Protective Services, said Maj. Gary Blakenship, with the sheriff's office. The alleged abuse happened in August and September of last year.
Hefner was jailed under a $500,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Feb. 14.
