Chatham County school bus driver charged with having gun, drugs on campus
An assistant teacher and bus driver at Silk Hope School in Siler City was arrested Thursday after Chatham County deputies said they found a loaded gun in her possession.
Posted — UpdatedElizabeth Truitt, 49, of 247 Baltimore Road in Advance, is charged with felonious possession of a weapon on school property, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
School officials received consent to search her property and found a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver in her possession, deputies said. During the investigation, deputies searched a trash can and located one ounce of marijuana and several assorted items of paraphernalia that a witness said Truitt was attempting to hide from officials.
The school was temporarily put on lockdown status as a precaution.
Truitt was released under a $10,000 bond Thursday afternoon. She is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on April 12.
