Chase involves Garner police, Wake and Johnston deputies

A man fleeing the scene of an alleged car theft was chased Saturday night by Garner police officers and sheriff's deputies from Wake and Johnston counties.

GARNER, N.C. — A man fleeing the scene of an alleged car theft was chased Saturday night by Garner police officers and sheriff's deputies from Wake and Johnston counties.

A witness reported seeing a person stealing a car from an Auto Zone store at Ten-Ten Road and U.S. Highway 401/Fayetteville Road in Garner shortly before 6 p.m. The witness followed the suspect until deputies and officers picked up the chase, Garner police said.

The chase continued along U.S. Highway 50, went onto Cleveland School Road and then back onto U.S. 50.

At that point, the suspect abandoned his car and ran away, police said. Deputies and officers used K9 units to search for the suspect.

Police said the chase did not cause any accidents, and no one was injured.
