Charlotte sees first measurable April snow since 1982

NBC Charlotte reported that the Queen City received its first measurable April snow since 1982 Tuesday. The flurries were even heavier in areas south and east of Charlotte from around 7:30 a.m. until around 11.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.NBC Charlotte reported that the Queen City received its first measurable April snow since 1982 Tuesday. The flurries were even heavier in areas south and east of Charlotte from around 7:30 a.m. until around 11.

WCNC meteorologist Brad Panovich tweeted that he received the first report of snow mixing in with rain from Fort Lawn, South Carolina around 6:45 a.m.

By 8:45 a.m., viewers reported seeing snow in Cabarrus, Chester, Lancaster and Union counties, including Marshville and Waxhaw, according to NBC Charlotte.

"What we're seeing now is a big shield of mostly rain," Panovich said. "As the heavier precipitation begins to fall, we will begin to see a mix with snow."
