Charlotte officers hailed as heroes for saving 12-year-old after shooting

Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are being hailed as heroes, credited with saving a 12-year-old's life.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are being hailed as heroes, credited with saving a 12-year-old’s life.

According to NBC affiliate WCNC, police said the boy was sitting on his bed listening to music when someone shot into his apartment in Charlotte’s Plaza MIdwood neighborhood, and he was struck by the bullet.

Police said the boy was shot in the arm and the bullet hit an artery. The loss of blood caused him to begin losing consciousness as he was being brought downstairs.

When officers Chad Henderson and Michael Summerfield arrived, they pulled out a tourniquet and applied it to the boy’s arm, saving his life, police said.

Rob Tufano, a spokesperson for Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, called the shooting reckless, saying two adults and three other children were in the home.
