CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte school was on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a person entered the school and threatened the principal, district officials said.

The elementary school, Reid Park Academy, is located on West Tyvola Road in west Charlotte.

Classes were not stopped during the lockdown, according to school officials.

"An internal lockdown means everyone stays put — if any student must leave the classroom, they’re escorted by a teacher," officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said in a statement.

Local law enforcement agencies were involved in the incident, district officials said.
