SANFORD, N.C. — A Lee County deputy has been charged with forcing a female inmate to perform a sex act while he was transferring her from the county jail in Sanford to the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh.

David Adams Jr., 55, of 1001 North Windrace Trail in Sanford, is expected in Wake County court next Monday on two felony sex offense charges and a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female.

According to search warrants released Monday, the inmate said Adams had dropped a male inmate off in Alamance County on Sept. 15 and was headed back to Raleigh on Interstate 85 with the female inmate handcuffed in the front seat when he pushed up her shirt, took photos of her breasts with her phone then sent the photos to himself.

Later, while Adams was still driving on U.S. Highway 70, he forced the inmate to perform a sex act, the warrants state. She reported the alleged incident to prison officials when she was dropped off, and Raleigh police were called to investigate.
