CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police asked for the public's help Thursday to help find a 17-year-old wanted in an attempted break-in less than a month after he finished a jail term for similar charges.

James Alexis Chavez, of 209 Elderberry Lane, is wanted on charges of attempted breaking and entering and resisting a public officer.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Chapel Hill police at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that solve crimes.

Chavez was released from jail on May 28 after serving about seven weeks for misdemeanor breaking and entering and larceny convictions and a probation violation, according to state Department of Correction records. He had been put on probation in January for more breaking and entering and larceny convictions.

He was also convicted of two counts of resisting a public officer last July.
