Chapel Hill Police Seek Information in Sexual Assault

Chapel Hill police said Friday they are seeking information about a sexual assault that occurred during the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 7.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police said Friday they are seeking information about a sexual assault that occurred during the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 7.

The victim was a black female in her late 40s, standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weigh 130 pounds, who had signs of physical trauma.

She entered a medical building off South Columbia Street and talked to an employee about being assaulted between 2 and 2:30 a.m. The worker tried to get the victim to go the emergency room at UNC Hospitals, but she refused.

The assault did not occur on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, officials said.

The suspect is described as a 5 foot 8 inch-tall black male, age 35, with a muscular build and a dark complexion.

Police said the suspect is in custody, but anyone with more information about the assault is asked to call Inv. Joe DiCostanzo at 919-968-2760, ext. 153.
