CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — For about a week Chapel Hill police have been watching drivers along a specific stretch of Franklin Street.

During that time, they discovered that of the 72,000 drivers they watched, more than 90% of them were speeding. Most of them reached almost 50mph in a 35mph zone.

At least one driver clocked in at 95mph.

Police had been monitoring the stretch of Franklin Street between Boundary Street and Eastgate Crossing.

From now through March 9, drivers should expect to see police beefing up their watch to remind people that it's a 35mph zone.

Police said they'll be cracking down on violators. They urge drivers to follow the rules of the road and pay attention to speed limits.
