Chapel Hill murder suspect arrested in Charlotte

Authorities arrested a 19-year-old woman on Tuesday who is connected to the shooting death a man at a motel in Chapel Hill.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Authorities arrested a 19-year-old woman on Tuesday who is connected to the shooting death a man at a motel in Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill police arrested Alexis Shenell Joyner, of Durham, in connection to the death of Edward Young III. Young was shot on Feb. 26 at the Red Roof Inn at 5623 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. and later died at Duke University Hospital.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service found Joyner at a residence in the 4000 block of Colebrook Road in Charlotte where they say Joyner got into the rear passenger seat of a car leaving the residence. Marshals tried to stop the vehicle, and the driver led them on a three-mile chase that ended whe the vehicle crashed into a tree.

Joyner fled the vehicle on foot, but was caught a short time later. Marshals transported Joyner to the Chapel Hill Police Department. Joyner was charged with first-degree murder and was jailed under no bond.
