CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill will celebrate Kids to Parks Day, a national day of play that aims to connect kid and families with their local, state and national parks, with some special events this weekend.

Launched in 2011, according to a news release, Kids to Parks is a nationwide celebration of the great outdoors organized by the National Park Trust. The goal is for kids across the country to learn about park stewardship and outdoor recreation as they explore public parks.

Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation has organized several events starting this Friday to encourage families to get outside. They include a pop up community event, a river float and a day trip to Hanging Rock State Park.

More information, including registration details for some of the programs, is available on the Facebook event page.
