CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Days after students moved back to UNC Chapel Hill, many are going back home -- and local businesses are worried.
A virus outbreak prompted the university to move all classes online after a couple days of in-person instruction. Some students are taking an extra precaution by moving back home to learn remotely.

Many Chapel Hill businesses said it’s been hard getting by during the pandemic, and the student population is what they rely on.

Time-Out Restaurant on East Franklin Street is right across the street from UNC. The owner, Eddie Williams, said business was starting to pick up when the university reopened.

After hearing that undergraduate students will no longer take in-person classes because of the spike in campus cases, he’s not sure what will happen to his business. He said March was bad, and he hopes it doesn't get that bad again.

“I just know that a lot of places are closing, especially here on Franklin Street," Willians said. "And the students were supposed to be our saving grace. But, it’s gonna be -- I don’t know -- it’s gonna be hard.”
