CEO of Greensboro furniture company dies from virus complications

Frederick Brown Starr, a long time executive of Thomasville Furniture and Natuzzi Americas, died Thursday at the age of 87 from coronavirus complications.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Frederick Brown Starr, a long time furniture executive in the Greensboro area, died Thursday at the age of 87 from coronavirus complications, WXII reports.

Starr was born in 1932 in Springfield, Mass. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford in 1955 with a BA in English and then served for two years in the United States Army.

In 1974, Starr joined Thomasville Furniture Industries and became president and CEO eight years later. Under his leadership, the company tripled its annual sales to more than $500 million, according to Furniture Today.

In 2001, Starr came out of retirement to become the president and CEO of Natuzzi Americas, which was based in High Point.

Starr is survived by his wife of 62 years and his three children.
