Wake Forest, N.C. — A CenturyLink outage left several area communities without 911 service Sunday afternoon.
The outage affected the 284 phone exchange, according to Johnston County spokeswoman Lu Hickey, preventing 911 service from landlines in Kenly, Micro, Princeton and surrounding areas. Anyone in those areas who has an emergency should call 919-934-9411.
Wake Forest's Town Hall and police department also were without phone service, although 911 was working there, according to spokesman Bill Crabtree.
Service in Wake Forest was restored by 3 p.m. and services in Johnston County was restored just before 6 p.m.
