What is Passover

Passover, also known as Pesach, is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the emancipation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. The 8-day celebration is one of the most important festivals in the Jewish year.

For more information about Passover and how traditions are changing this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, see this article from Daniel Burke, the CNN Religion Editor.
For a well-written and entertaining Q & A explaining the basics of Passover, head to this article from USA Today.
Some of the questions that are answered in the article include:

"Explain the holiday one more time — with feeling."

"Some Jews are really excited this year because of a ruling permitting the consumption of rice on Passover. Is rice exciting? "

"What if I’m a kid? What’s in Passover for me?"

Hosting or Joining in a Virtual Seder

With most of the country under stay-at-home orders, having a traditional seder gathering with family and friends will not be happening this year. Fortunately, there are many ways to celebrate virtually.

In this article about How to Host a Virtual Seder from USA Today, you'll find some great suggestions for how to have a virtual seder including instructions on how to use Zoom, the videoconferencing website.
To find a virtual seder to join in, see this list of seders from nuroots.org.
On Saturday, April 11, you can stream the online Saturday Night Seder at 8 pm ET. This streaming Passover Seder is being presented to benefit the CDC Foundation’s Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund and there is a long list of famous actors, Broadway stars, singers, joining in to celebrate. Some of the stars joining in from their homes include Henry Winkler, Idina Menzel, Andy Cohen, Josh Groban, Eichner, Ben Platt, Jason Alexander, Mayim Bialik, Rachel Brosnahan, Fran Drescher and many more. See the details and guest list at saturdaynightseder.com.

If you are a member of a synagogue, they may be offering a virtual seder for members that you can join as well.

Online Haggadah Resources

The Haggadah is a written guide to the Passover seder. Following are some online Haggadahs that everyone joining in the seder can use together. You'll even find a very cute Children's Coloring Book Haggadah to print and color.

Passover Recipes

You may not have been able to find all the Kosher for Passover foods you normally enjoy this year, but there are a number of websites offering many recipes for Passover foods with ingredients you may already have on hand.
