DURHAM, N.C. — Several shootings have occurred in Durham in the last few weeks, including one Sunday morning.

Police said a man was shot on West Main Street and drove himself to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators questioned two men, but no charges had been filed as of Sunday evening.

The shooting came at the start of Bull City Ceasefire Week, which organizers hope will usher in at least a few days of peace in Durham.

"We can't sit and say it's not our problem because it's everybody's problem. We live in this community," organizer Shea Ramirez said. "A bullet has no name on it, so it can be me or my family members or my kids [who are hurt], and I don't want that."

Ramirez said the events, like Success Sunday, which focused on job interviewing skills, will help promote love and togetherness.

"I can't sit around and wait for somebody to fix the problem," she said. "If I have a platform or if I have some type of outlet to be able to do something, I'm a doer, I'm going to do it."

Other events scheduled for the week include the following:

  • A job fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at SH'Bbella Talent Agency, 1058 W. Club Blvd.
  • A Stop the Violence walk and bike ride along the American Tobacco Trail and fitness-oriented events on CCB Plaza downtown from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Information about obtaining a GED or attending community college from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at SH'Bella Talent Agency.
  • Financial literacy events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at SH'Bella Talent Agency.
  • A "Bull City Love Fest" featuring Durham leaders, entertainment and food trucks from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday on Rigsbee Avenue.
