CDC data: NC has given out 38% of available COVID-19 vaccine doses

Hours after President Joe Biden was sworn-in on Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new state-by-state COVID-19 vaccine data showing where North Carolina stands compared to other states.

The new data from the CDC outlines exactly how many doses each state has received and how many have been administered.

CDC releases state-by-state vaccine data

In North Carolina, the state has received just over 1 million doses from the federal government since Dec. 14. Of those, 38% of the doses have been administered.

The number compares to Georgia and Michigan, which both have a population similar to North Carolina.

Biden has said he hopes to vaccinate 100 million people within his first 100 days in office.

On Wednesday, Wake County officials told WRAL News the county is hopeful the new administration's plan to work closer with states will help speed up the vaccination process.

While other county public health departments are vaccinating thousands of people each day against the novel coronavirus, those numbers in Wake County are only in the hundreds. Those who manage to get through could still face a wait of weeks or months before their appointment, according to Johnna Sharpe, the county chief operating officer.
