CBC announces promotions in corporate, real estate, baseball operations

Capitol Broadcasting Company Inc., the parent company of WRAL-TV, WRAL.com and the Durham Bulls among other media, real estate and sports interests, announced the promotions Tuesday of three senior employees.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Capitol Broadcasting Company Inc., the parent company of WRAL-TV, WRAL.com and the Durham Bulls among other media, real estate and sports interests, announced the promotions Tuesday of three senior employees.

George Habel, a 34-year CBC employee who as vice president of Capitol Sports oversaw two Triple-A National Championship titles for the Durham Bulls, will leave that post and take on the role of vice president of special projects in the spring. 

"He has a tremendous amount of experience and wisdom to contribute to Special Projects. I am excited that George will be able to spend more time with his family while also continuing to provide important contributions to the company," said CBC President and Chief Operating Officer Jimmy Goodmon.

Goodmon's brother, Michael Goodmon, was promoted to senior vice president. In that role he will continue to focus on CBC real estate interests in Durham and Rocky Mount, and he will take on oversight of the baseball group.

Mike Birling has been promoted to vice president – baseball operations. He will report to Michael Goodmon.

Birling started working for the Durham Bulls in 1998 as assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in 2003.
