Caught on camera: Three tag graffiti in downtown Clayton

Three people caught on camera spray-painting businesses and town property in downtown Clayton, according to a press release from the town.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Three people were caught on camera spray-painting businesses and town property in downtown Clayton late Saturday night, according to a press release from the town.

Over a dozen properties were defaced with graffiti including many local business, shopping centers, and historical sites through town. A community art display was also damaged by the paint.

All the graffiti was tagged with similar markings and in red, orange and yellow spray paint.

The town staff said in a release it "will have to work to see if the paint can be removed."

Security footage of the three people defacing town property was posted by the town to YouTube, and the painting is visible about a minute in.

Clayton Police Department said in the press release said it will "take these crimes very seriously." Anyone with information related to the graffiti or the three people in the video is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611.
