Cary is seeking entries for its second annual Heart of the Holidays Gingerbread House Competition.

The contest has three categories - family, teen (ages 13 to 17) and adult (ages 18 and up). And Sarah Hagan with the town's cultural resources department tells me that many families entered the contest last year.

"From talking to them, they mentioned how much fun it was working together as a family to come up with an idea for their house and then create it," Hagan wrote in an email. "It really sounded like the families got some wonderful quality time with their children by taking part in this."

Ribbons will be awarded to the top three houses in each category. They'll be on display in downtown Cary businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 1, as part of the town's Heart of the Holidays Celebration. There will be a map so people can visit each of the gingerbread houses and then vote for their favorite. The winner will receive a People's Choice Award Ribbon.

Ribbon winners will then have their gingerbread house on display at the Cary Arts Center in December.

Registration forms are due on Nov. 21. For all the details, click here and scroll down to the section on the contest. You'll find the official rules and a registration form.
