CARY, N.C. — Several cars on a CSX cargo train derailed Wednesday afternoon in Cary, prompting a road closure as crews worked to upright the cars.

No one was injured and no hazardous materials spilled during the incident, which happened on Carpenter Upchurch Road.

All lanes of the roadway, between Green Hope High School and Heritage Pines Drive, were closed. The road was expected to remain closed overnight and reopen for the morning commute.

Details on what caused the derailment were not immediately available.

Motorists are asked to take alternate routes. Louis Stephens Drive can be used to access the high school, officials said.
