— Police asked for the public's help to solve an attempted robbery outside a bank near Cary Towne Center Wednesday afternoon.

A man jumped into a vehicle outside the BB&T bank, at 848 Southeast Maynard Road, shortly after noon and demanded money, police said. The occupants didn't give him money, and he fled from the scene on foot.

No one was injured, but authorities locked down nearby Cary High School for about an hour while they searched the area.

Police described the man as white, 35 to 42 years old, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, with short, brown hair. He was wearing a dark, zippered jacket with dark pants.

Anyone near the area during the time of the attempted robbery is asked to call Cary police at 919-469-4012 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-3746. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $2,500 for anonymous tips that solve crimes.
