FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cary man who is accused of shooting and killing a woman Friday night was captured in Fayetteville late Saturday.

Daniel Scott Remington, 36, of Gooseneck Drive, was wanted for the shooting death of Wendy Jean Johnson, 58, of Sanford.

Johnson, a night nurse, was shot shortly before 11 p.m. Friday while making a visit to an apartment on Hyde Park Court. Emergency workers took her to Duke University Medical Center, where she died.

Cary police contacted Fayetteville police Saturday night to let them know Remington might be in the area.

Authorities went to a home in the 300 block of Faison Avenue in Fayetteville and found Remington's vehicle. He was seen on foot in the area of Owen Drive and Hunter Circle and ran when he saw officers, according to police.

A K-9 tracked him to the rear of a house on Hunter Circle, where he was arrested and charged with murder.

“We hope this arrest brings some measure of closure to Ms. Johnson’s family, and we appreciate the efforts of all those involved in bringing the suspect into custody so quickly,” Cary police Capt. Randall Rhyne said in a statement.
