CARY, N.C. — A Cary man has been charged in connection with the death of his mother last month, court documents show.

Eric Paul Brunner, 39, of 6801 Marksmans Way, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and abuse of an elder with serious injury, according to an arrest warrant. He was being held Wednesday in the Wake County jail under a $1 million bond.

Court documents state that 74-year-old Cynthia Braverman Brunner was reported dead at the home Feb. 19.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said Eric Brunner called 911 that day, and paramedics found his mother dead on the floor. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death, he said.

The arrest warrant states that Eric Brunner was the caretaker for his mother but "fail[ed] to provide medical care and hygienic care" for her. As a result, she "suffered mental injury and physical injury."
