CARTHAGE, N.C. — A Carthage man has been charged in a vehicle accident that sent four people to the hospital on Saturday, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Steven Harmon was charged with a “safe movement” violation. Police said Harmon was driving a Dodge Durango west on Highway 24/27 near Carthage when he attempted to turn onto Dowdy Road. The collision occurred when the Durango turned in front of a Chevy Avalanche traveling east on Highway 24/27. The Avalanche hit the passenger-side front door of the Durango.

Harold Pollydore, of Spring Lake, was driving the Avalanche. His wife, Donette Pollydore, and their nearly one month old son, David, were in the backseat. All were taken to Moore Regional hospital.

Penny Vaughn, a passenger in the Durango, was airlifted to UNC and was listed in stable condition Saturday evening.
